What a ride it was for Mortal Kombat X. Upon launch, in addition to the usual controversy the series brings due to it’s violent content it also rustled some jimmies by offering “easy fatalities” for sale and a strange experiment for PC players where the game was downloaded in chunks. The chunks, listed as DLC, didn’t work right and some players had to re-download the game multiple times, resulting in bad times for people with network caps.
Then it had the typical bugs to be fixed, the most annoying one being the lousy connection. But not to worry! A new netcode is in beta testing, that will be included in the next updates! What is that? No beta testing for PC? Well, at least we’ll be getting it eventually when the new content arrives.
Mortal Kombat XL and Kombat Pack 2 will be available on PS4 and XO only.
Oh. This does not bode well.
The frankly disastrous launch resulted in only half a million games sold on PC, while the consoles netted nine times that amount and fans of the game moved to those platforms to properly enjoy it. Indeed, the competitive scene jumped ship in the PC port since it’s “unplayable”. And the fans are NOT happy.
I imagine a ton of players will be requesting refunds for their game, while other players made this petition for the devs to not abandon the game. The situation could have been handled a lot better than this, such as the Arkham Knight kerfuffle in which the developers were committed to fix the game and win back the community, which to some extent they did.
So, to recap, while there is NO official word it’s quite clear in the marketing and trailers that the game is abandoned for the PC and the PC gamers are justifiably outraged.
