After cancellation, Constantine gets a new life!
Television adaptation of DC Comics’ Hellblazer titled Constantine saw a premature cancellation when host network NBC decided to drop the show off its roster due to dwindling ratings. The show had accumulated a decent fan-following during its run with fans praising Matt Ryan’s performance as the titular character.
Following cancellation, petitions popped up immediately with Arrow frontrunner Stephen Amell joining the crusade with an announcement on twitter that he will guest star on Constantine if NBC or some other network picked up the show, only to be met with the network’s apathy. Alas!
But all was not unwell for the infamous magician, as CW boss Mark Pedowitz hinted at a possible appearance of Constantine in Arrowverse. Media went abuzz with excitement as Marc Guggenheim took to the internet to confirm the news and announced that John Constantine would make a guest appearance on Arrow in its fourth season appearing in fourth episode, congruously titled ‘Haunted’. The show is said to adapt a lighter tone as opposed to its predecessor and will deal with magic and mysticism, a theme yet untapped on Arrow.
“Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired. The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to Arrow and the CW’s DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series.” Guggnheim added.
Matt Ryan’s appearance is currently set to be a one-shot, with later appearances being considered by the producers.
