So, a Resident Evil 2 could be happening, and it could be happening soon.

It all started a few days ago, with a post on the official Resident Evil Facebook page. A mysterious Capcom employee (who only referred to himself as H) said he wanted to hear people’s opinions on a Resident Evil 2 remake.

“Hello Resident Evil fans!
This is Capcom R&D Division 1!

First off, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all Resident Evil fans, for your passion, enthusiasm and continued support for the Resident Evil brand.

Enthusiasm for a Resident Evil 2 Remake is something we’ve been hearing from you over the years, and has drawn some recent attention in the media.

However, as the team owns the RE brand, we’re not certain how we feel about this approach, and would like to ask your honest and frank opinion about the “Resident Evil 2 Remake” and what the brand identity is supposed to be about?”

Of course, the fans reacted as one would expect. The post currently has over 11 thousand replies that go from incredulity, to suggestions, to unmeasurable hype. But it could have just been Capcom testing the waters, right?

A second post followed the next morning.

“Hi Resident Evil fans!
This is H from Capcom R&D Division 1!

I was told by my boss to check out the post by “R&D Division 1” on the Resident Evil Facebook page, and THIS IS AMAZING….

Thank you so much for your passion and continued support for Resident Evil brand!

He was also telling me…“can YOU make a worth seeing game to answer these fans full of passion???”

This order actually makes me SUPER excited…!!!”

This H fella seems to be as excited as the rest of us. But who was H? Why is he asking Facebook for feedback? His third post, posted earlier this morning, not only gave us hope, but it also gave us the answer.

“Hello RE fans! This is H again!
Right after the RE HD Remaster project was finished, I actually started putting together my ideas for this “RE2 Project”. So, I just brushed it up and went to see my boss to present the basic concept of the project already”

The post also included this picture:

User artsi in NeoGAF was quick to point out the identity of H from the picture.

“The paper says 平林 良章 (Yoshiaki Hirabayashi), he’s a producer at Capcom.”

Yoshiaki Hirabayashi is the man responsible for the HD version of RE Remake, so it makes sense now. The HD versions of REmake and Zero were probably gauging interest in old-school RE in today’s market, since REmake 2 would be a much larger investment for Capcom. With the success of REmake HD, he’s probably finally trying to get his project off the ground.

We wish you the best of luck, H.
