A short recap of Sony‘s conference would probably cause a serious ammount of strokes around the gaming community. In about one hour of conference:
- The Last Guardian
- New Hitman
- Assassins Creed
- Star Wars
The remake of Final Fantasy 7 and the kickstarter of Shenmue 3!
It was too much. Way too much. Prior talkings inside the gaming community discussed about the advantage Microsoft had taken with its annoucements. Well, booyah! That was hard. Really really hard.
The Last Guardian
The long awaited ending of the ‘trilogy’ started by the magnificent ‘Shadow of the Collossus’ and followed by ‘Ico’ was one of the heavy rumours we didn’t expect to actually happen. So when Sony threw it out at the beginning of the conference was like ‘Fuck, my heart is pumping faster’. You know, the game looks old (not even PS3 looks), and the collisions system showed in the trailer was quite shoddy, but man, the art in that trailer. Ten years of consistent videogame trailers destroyed by a five minute one of a character and his/her huge ‘doggy’ beast on a jungly/industrial environment. It was awesome. Ten years later, we will finally be able to see it.
Remake of Final Fantasy 7
Last night I heard a lot of ‘Why’ about it. You know why gaming community needs a remake of this game?
Because, like ‘Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ it’s one of the frequently named as best game ever and it’s almost twenty years old. A whole gamer generation hasn’t experienced this jewel yet. And they probably won’t because it didn’t age well. Of course you can play it, but it will be hard to get accustomed to the polygonal graphics. It was hard to me. So yes, a total remake of this game, like Nintendo does with his classics every now and then, is needed.
Kickstarter of Shenmue 3
This one was completely odd. In about two hours, the kickstarter reached half of the incomes they were asking for. The original Shenmue titles were Dreamcast classics that were so ahead of their time and, like Van Gogh, gained all their praises too late. It’s kinda sad, but this excellent news changes everything. Shenmue 3 is real. And I’m so happy I’m here to see it.
Let’s fast forward the bug on the beginning. Sony fail, haha, hilarious.
That trailer of actual gameplay was awesome. The dialogs, the visuals, the framerate on that Spielbergian run on a jeep. Sweet. Nathan Drake never looked so close to a mix of Liam Neeson and Harrison Ford. We need this game. PS4 needs it. Visuals need improvement probably, but Sony and Naughy Dog can’t delay this game. This is the edge they need to win this console war for good.
If they get all this right, Sony will kill XBox and Nintendo like they killed Sega in the 90’s. This is not an expression of desire. As of today, Microsoft, with Xbox One, did almost everything wrong while Sony, with PS4 did almost everything right. Yes, both catalogues are still short and fattened with indies, but all the new stuff could mean victory for the Japanese.
